Russian Folk Dance “Berezka”…

When you think of Russian dancing, it’s hard not to think about The Nutcracker by Peter IIyich Tchaikovsky. It’s not only a popular ballet piece, it’s a classic.

Although the Russians are known for their ballet, they are also known for their folk dances. Their dances first started with the movement of Slavic tribes into Russia back in the 10th century. Costumes are also an important part of the dance. The women wear headdresses, ornamental aprons and embroidered shirts. Men wear belts, narrow pants and high boots.

These Russian women look like they incorporated the fluidity of ballet and the deep roots of Russian folk dancing. It’s like they’re floating on water.
